Hi guys, how are you doing, I hope you guys are having a lovely day, so let me start by asking you this question do you know your business or does your business on you? Give it a deep thought for a moment before you continue reading this article.
For over a decade now as an entrepreneur with a lot of wins in life. Having a business idea, the Enterprise you have created actually because a prison rather than a place of comfort, starting from the level of looking for a job, getting a job doing everyday, doing the job and starting a successful business. The question that really matter is how do you get to the point whereby the system you have created we help build your business or will I say run your business, operate the business and get to a level of making massive moves with just a step.
If you are not an entrepreneur, you are self employed
Let's Create this scenario let's say you take off 90 days from your business you did attend to business, you just left to business alone for 90 days, ask yourself will the business still drive, will you not go bankrupt, will the business survive or withstand the harsh economy, once the business can survive then you can call yourself an entrepreneur but if the business cannot stand for 90 days without you doing anything about it then you are self employed.
Don't get me wrong there's nothing wrong being a safe employed individual but when you want to take your business to the next level or make your business thrive in the next generation or grow it to a certain network and sell it, then you need to put system in place to be able to scale the business.
Five Levels to Business
- Professional: As a professional in business this is a level whereby most of the majority task is done by you and you alone.
- Self employed: In this way of business being self-employed means that you do all the major tasks but some minor tasks are assigned to one or two individuals under your supervision.
- Business Owner: Most people in the business space stop at this level. This level requires you having other professionals working and running the business for you, but still requires you to do proof, check and balance as well as maintenance of clients relationship.
- Entrepreneur: If you want to create true wealth that can be passed down from generation to generation, then you want to become an entrepreneur. In my own understanding of an entrepreneur is someone that has a strategy that he or she has developed and worked over time and has place in process to make sure that the strategy works (automated) with or without his/her presence, also has selected like minded people that are more skill than her or him.
- Founder: Just as the name implies founder. It means a title you would keep forever once you're not there anymore as an individual, there can be many CEOs, many directors, many marketers, and many sales personnel but there's only one founder or two (co-founder).
Think of these levels above and categorise yourself where do you see yourself in and how you are willing to go to get to the next level.
When do you realise you weren't an entrepreneur
So back in those days when I gave birth to my first child (Tobi), the guy is a brilliant kid, a lovely kid and an amazing kid, the first three years of his life I hardly saw him, I spent most of my days working, before he wakes up in the morning I'm out of the house and he will be asleep before I come back home from work, even on weekends I was attending one meeting or the other because that's what the society taught us to be as an entrepreneur.
Then I came across some businessmen that were healthier and had more wealth than me and weren't working the way I do. At that point I was able to crack the code that I wasn't an entrepreneur, I was just self employed, and I had to restart again with a mindset of an entrepreneur.
So to answer the question does your business own you? I will let you be the judge of that.
