How Extremely Successful People Think

Have you ever wondered about the secrets to success? Have you ever wondered how successful individuals perceive things? Throughout my journey, I've had the opportunity to interview countless highly accomplished individuals. Today I am excited to share with you a glimpse, into their mindset and thought processes.

To achieve success it is crucial to understand that successful individuals have a mindset that sets them apart from others in the society. Most people, in society are not successful so our way of thinking and perception of things differ significantly. Today I would like to share a insights, into how incredibly successful people think. This will enable you to make new decisions starting today. The objective here is to focus on three differentiating factors even though there are distinctions that could be discussed at length.

1. Think long term

This is the experience I'd like to share. A time ago I had the opportunity to have lunch, with one of Vancouvers successful and wealthiest businessmen. During that time his net worth was half a billion dollars, around five hundred million dollars. It was a privilege for me to have lunch with him and engage in conversation to gain insights into his career lessons views on the economy and his vision, for his business. At the age of 52 he had accomplished endeavors. Was filled with immense enthusiasm. He couldn't stop talking about his plans and the legacy he wanted to build. It was truly remarkable that despite being 52 years old he radiated the excitement as a child. Despite his age he exuded an excitement as he passionately shared his vision for the 50 years, yes you heard it right five decades! He discussed his plans, for the future including ensuring a transition, after his departure and maintaining the company's operations. He expressed his intention to contribute to causes and establish foundations to uphold his legacy.

The enthusiasm he displayed for these endeavors was palpable. I was so amazed! This accomplished man was sharing his dreams for the future. At 52 years old he spoke about his aspirations even if he lives until 100 years old. He also pondered what would happen if he were to pass. That moment left a lasting impression, on me because it showed that successful individuals have a long term perspective.

The more successful an individual is, the longer term that they think. Let me illustrate this with an example; consider someone who is experiencing homelessness. Their immediate concerns revolve around obtaining their meal and finding some change. On the other hand an employee whether in a manual labor job is likely thinking about receiving their paycheck in two weeks time. Their focus extends as far, as two weeks. A secure employee might have a monthly perspective; considering how they will be paid and what expenses they need to prioritize on a month to month basis. It's important not to adopt an attitude that only revolves around doing enough to avoid being fired; such an approach can lead to termination. Now let's think about a manager. They typically operate on a timeframe. They set goals and objectives for each quarter along, with quotas that need to be met.

As an entrepreneur, it's important to have a forward thinking mindset. Instead of solely focusing on short term goals, successful entrepreneurs often ponder what they want to achieve in the span of a year or even longer, like 5 to 10 years. Personally, I have a well defined 10 year plan and approach it by reverse engineering. This means breaking down my goals into what needs to be accomplished in year 9, year 8 and so on... By regularly checking if I'm on track with these milestones, I can then further break them down into monthly objectives. Eventually, I narrow my focus to daily goals that align with my overall vision for success. I love the concept of DIG (Daily Income Goal) and how it contributes to long term prosperity. It's clear that successful individuals prioritize long term thinking over short term gains.

2. Think Accurately

There is another way in which successful individuals tend to think and I strongly believe it revolves around accuracy. One of the principles emphasized in Napoleon Hills "Think and Grow Rich" is accurate thinking. Surprisingly it is not frequently discussed, but It holds significance. Accurate thinking entails perceiving things as they truly are without exaggeration or underestimation. On the contrary unsuccessful people often display optimism or harbor illusions of success. They might say things like "Oh everything will work out perfectly! I'll start this business without any knowledge and within three weeks I'll be making $20,000 a month!" However this kind of mindset is simply foolish and overly optimistic. What I've observed about individuals is that they possess a perspective which I like to call realistic optimism. They maintain an outlook, on their endeavors while also acknowledging the realities and challenges they may face.

I always have these three questions, in mind whether I'm in my office or at home. It's something I constantly ask myself. It is not because I believe everything will go perfectly or exactly as planned. Absolutely not! These are the three questions that keep popping up in my mind;

  • What could potentially go wrong?
  • What am I missing?
  • What might be hidden from my sight?

So let us think about those questions for a moment. It's not about being negative you know. Some people might say, "Oh Ukeme is just being negative." It's actually about being realistic, being an optimist. Understanding the potential. Knowing how to tackle them head on. Because heres the thing; if I can identify all the things that could potentially go wrong and come up with a plan to handle them effectively then I'm in shape. That significantly increases my chances of success, for that project. Does that resonate with you? Are you following along? That's another aspect successful individuals possess the ability to think with precision.

3. Think People

Successful individuals have a tendency to prioritize relationships and consider the perspectives of others. On the other hand I've observed that unsuccessful people often exhibit selfishness solely focused, on their own gains. They adopt a win or lose mindset especially when driven by desperation. This is precisely why successful individuals prefer doing business with achievers. We understand that our lifestyle won't be significantly impacted by whether a particular deal succeeds or fails. Consequently they don't carry a sense of neediness or desperation that can be putting. You know what I mean? It's rather unsettling to deal with someone who exudes a vibe. Thus successful people naturally gravitate towards success oriented individuals who possess an abundance mentality. While it is not a guarantee there's a chance they won't betray trust or compromise relationships, over trivial monetary matters. All you'll never hear of a limousine pulling up to rob a bank; it just doesn't happen in reality. Throughout my years of experience and numerous deals it is been those who have deceived and betrayed me.

People who are, in need of money and those who haven't achieved their desired level of success. Approximately 9, out of 10 individuals aspire to collaborate with individuals and a simple handshake suffices to seal the deal. Successful individuals prioritize the needs of others. They consider their customers, employees and vendors as they strive to provide value to the market. This approach is a factor, in their success instead of focusing on their own desires or forcefully pushing products or services they concentrate on effective communication that resonates with the market. They understand that it's crucial to put themselves and prioritize people. Their focus revolves around delivering value to the market retaining clients exceeding client expectations and ensuring high performance levels among their employees. They actively. Support their team members because they recognize that by prioritizing others they gain support in return. This mindset is essential, for achieving long term success.

Many individuals often discuss being self made claiming to be a self made man or woman or even a self made millionaire. However I don't personally believe that the concept of a self made millionaire exists. All the millionaires I know have achieved their success through teamwork. They acknowledge that, without their team they wouldn't be where they are today. Similarly I recognize the importance of my team in enabling me to accomplish what I do. It's, through our efforts that we can effectively lead and achieve our goals.

Conclusion

These are three ways in which successful individuals tend to approach things from those who are unsuccessful. I believe that successful individuals tend to share this perspective. On the other hand, those who are not as successful often think differently. Can you confirm if my understanding is accurate? Please share your thoughts in the comments below. I am eager to hear your insights as they may spark something within me and provide me and people with new ideas or valuable perspectives to support everyone's growth.
