Why tirelessly hustling doesn't make you wealthy. Rather leaves you exhausted. The common belief is that to achieve success one must work relentlessly and put in hours. While there is some truth, to this notion it is not the answer. To support this argument I have two questions for you then I conclude my case.
Firstly are you currently putting in a lot of effort into your work? Are you achieving the desired outcomes? Are you making the amount of money you aspire for? These are the questions to consider. If your response is negative then it's important to understand why. Is there some formula, for success that is being overlooked?
Secondly think about the people you know who work diligently but aren't financially prosperous. Clearly hard work alone cannot be the solution. It plays a role. Its not the determining factor for becoming wealthy. So what is the actual answer? What is the truth, behind achieving success?
Entrepreneurial Success Metrics
I think it really depends on where you're, in your career. If I'm speaking to you as an entrepreneur as someone who strives for success here's my perspective. When I started out I worked relentlessly for the five years of my life. Every single day was dedicated to my work; I didn't even take a day off during those five years. There wasn't balance; it was about putting in maximum effort. I understood that achieving success comes at a cost and I was willing to pay that price.
Now lets talk about the aspect after those five years of work. In my opinion if you haven't reached a six figure income by that point something might be. Not quite aligned with your goals and efforts. Similarly when you reach the ten year mark, as an entrepreneur and aren't making a seven figure income it's essential to reevaluate and reflect on your strategies and actions. This is how I personally measure success in terms of finances.
Remember these are my thoughts based on experience and observations.
If you haven't achieved the desired success, in the decade simply working longer hours won't necessarily solve the problem. It's unlikely that pushing yourself to work hours when you're already putting in your maximum effort and sacrificing weekends will make a significant difference. Adding two hours of work especially when exhausted isn't going to be the breakthrough you're hoping for. That's why I personally believe in the 80-20 Principle. If you haven't come across Richard Koch's book on this topic I highly recommend giving it a read. It offers insights. Essentially it suggests that 20% of your actions yield 80% of your results in life. Similarly 20% of your customers contribute to 80% of your revenue. Also account for 80% of the challenges you face.
When we examine our actions, in life we often find that only a small portion, 20% contributes to the majority of our results 80%. So while its commendable to be busy and engaged in activities it's crucial to reflect on whether those efforts are yielding the desired outcomes. In instances where things aren't going as planned it becomes essential to employ thinking skills and adapt accordingly.
It's not, about working you also need to reflect on what you're doing and identify whats not working. It's common for influencers and gurus to emphasize the importance of hustle and working tirelessly. They often advocate for putting in ten times the effort and giving it your all. While theres nothing with their approach it can be likened to using a shotgun. Expending a lot of energy with the hope that something will hit the target. Truth be told, if you keep at it enough something might eventually work out. However my approach is like that of a sniper. I patiently assess before taking one shot that yields maximum results with minimal effort. I don't rely on the scattergun method; instead I focus on precision and efficiency. That's how I perceive things. Thats why simplicity is at the core of everything I believe in. It's, about keeping things concise and elegant.
What Make You Rich Is Not Hustle But Leverage
Hustling alone isn't the factor that leads to wealth. If we observe all the individuals I know they do put in effort. Their definition of hustle differs greatly from yours. Your understanding of hustle revolves around work and exertion. However let me inform you that it's not hustle alone that brings wealth; rather it's leverage. Take a look, at any person and you'll find they have leverage on their side.
Now what is leverage? It involves utilizing peoples time, money and resources. They assemble a team. Invest their money wisely to generate income. They seek guidance, from advisors. Capitalize on advancements. They possess something the ability to make use of peoples skills and resources effectively, be it their time or intelligence. That's what truly contributes to wealth creation. The keyword here isn't just hustle; it's leverage. Course earning the right to reach a point where leveraging becomes possible may require some learning and understanding on your part. Today I'm simply introducing this concept to you; Hustle first and then learn how to leverage for further progress.
Let me share a story from my life. During my 20s when I was earning a six figure income I had set a goal for myself; to become a millionaire. Now you have to understand that when you're already making $100,000 or $120,000, per year reaching the million dollar mark seems like quite a leap. I was well aware that working alone wouldn't cut it because I was already putting in hours and giving it my all. So the question became; how could I achieve ten times the results?
I knew that simply working ten times harder wasn't feasible since we all have 24 hours in a day and cannot magically gain 240 hours. It was clear, to me that what I needed was leverage – not effort.
Then I didn't have all the answers. This realization guided my approach towards reaching my goal of becoming a millionaire.
How can I make the most of my opportunities? How can I expand my reach to an audience, in the marketplace? How can I provide value? How can I ensure higher quality standards in my work? The key, to earning money is leverage as money is simply a result of creating value. The question then becomes how can you create value for a number of people? It may sound simple. Its the truth. During a time when I was making a six figure income I realized that I was only serving a group of individuals. Despite that I was able to earn an amount.
To increase my earnings further it became clear that I needed to serve people. Maybe not ten times the number, Definitely multiply it significantly. Additionally I understood that having a mindset shift was essential to become an earner in the seven figure range. So there were two things on my agenda; reshaping how I think and considering who I needed to become in order to focus on these aspects. Alongside this mindset shift my focus shifted towards delivering value to an audience or in more impactful ways.
It's important to note that this doesn't solely rely on work or hustle; it's much deeper than that—it's about contemplation and strategic thinking.
I ponder over that idea. Manage to achieve that objective. Moreover I performed an action going from a seven figure income to an eight figure income.
When I was earning a seven figure income I asked myself a question; if I want to reach the eight figure level what aspects should I prioritize? Who do I need to become and what kind of impact should I strive for? How can I expand my reach? The first thing I realized was the need to shift my focus and mindset as an entrepreneur. While at that time I saw myself as a seven figure earner it was essential for me to envision myself as an eight figure earner. This realization led me to consider how my actions, communication, behavior and overall business operations should align with being an eight figure earner. To gain clarity, on this transition I sought advice from entrepreneurs who had already achieved this level of success. Through interviews and conversations with them I inquired about their strategies, for running their businesses leading teams implementing marketing tactics and selling techniques— all the elements that contributed to their accomplishments. My intention was genuinely driven by the desire to learn from their experiences and apply those lessons in my journey.
What struck me is their behavior and thinking which's quite distinct, from those who earn seven figures. It's truly fascinating, isn't it? Now I find myself in a position, as those who have achieved financial success.
Conclusion
Do I simply need to work a hundred times to achieve this? Absolutely not. It wasn't, about exerting a hundred times effort or ten times more effort. What changed was my mindset. I started thinking ten times bigger strategizing ten times harder and learning with increased intensity. It wasn't about hustling that's what made the difference. So now as I aspire to reach the nine figure level I have to envision how a successful entrepreneur at that level would act, behave think and operate. I need to internalize this and develop habits because what has brought me here won't necessarily take me there. Therefore it's crucial for me to make that shift first before my actions align with it. That's the way to go; that's why hustling alone only leads to exhaustion rather than wealth accumulation. True wealth comes from leveraging opportunities and being intentional, in our actions. Now let me tell you if you're a person who doesn't even know how to work yet well...that's a problem if you aspire for success because working hard is the bare minimum requirement just to get your foot in the door.
I'm guessing you already have that covered. If you don't do well then it might be tough to achieve success. I'm assuming you've got it under control and are putting in the effort. Now it's time to consider how to work how to challenge yourself mentally and how to enhance your learning abilities. That's the way to go. Wealthy individuals often choose to tackle challenges, which's why they enjoy an easy life. On the other hand those who are poor tend to opt for an easy life which leads to hardships, in their lives.
